OPEN HOUSE FAQs

Wednesday, July 31
Session 1 is 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Session 2 is 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Open House on Wednesday, July 31. You may choose to drop in during either of the sessions. This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, tour the school, sign up to volunteer with the PVA, pick up your carpool number, learn about Fine Arts and Athletics, and much more. We are excited to welcome you all to what promises to be a great year! Below is a list of frequently asked questions.

Which session should I attend?

Feel free to attend either session. We want families to be able to plan their day around their schedules. The two sessions will be identical.

Do I need to be on time, or is it a drop-in event?

It is a drop-in event. Families are welcome to show up at any time during the session. There is no formal programming or presentation during either session. Session 1 is 9:00 am - 11:00 am, and Session 2 is 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The largest crowd tends to be in the first 30 minutes of each session. To avoid long waits, we invite you to arrive later in the session.

Should I bring my children?

Yes. It provides them an opportunity to find their classrooms and meet their teachers. Open House is intended for students and parents.

Do Kindergarten students need to attend?

Yes. While Kindergarten Preview is an event targeted for Kindergarten, Open House is the day the students will find out who their teachers are. There is also information given to the parents relevant to students in grades K-10.

Will my child find out who his/her teacher is?

Yes. Students will receive this information at the check-in tables. Families are welcome and encouraged to stop by their teacher’s classroom and introduce themselves.

What should I do when I arrive?

All students and parents will enter through the front door of the building and follow the signage to get to the check-in tables, which are organized alphabetically by the student’s last name. You may then explore any other tables that you wish. Learn more about Athletics, Fine Arts, PVA involvement, signing into your Infinite Campus account, and more. When you are finished with the tables, you may proceed to the classrooms to meet your children’s teachers. We recommend that 6th-10th grade students follow the students’ schedules and visit classrooms in that order.

If my child takes medication, should I bring it to the Open House?

Medication may be brought to the Open House and left with the Nurse. However, you will need to complete additional documentation before the medicine can be administered to your student(s).

What if I can’t make it to the Open House?

If you are unable to attend the Open House during the hours of 9:00 am-11:00 am or 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, the check-in packets (including carpool tags) may be picked up from the front desk on the first day of school from 7:25-8:00 a.m. We ask that parents who are picking up on the first day accompany their children to the front office to collect these items. Please note that without the carpool tag, parents will have to come inside and show identification to pick up their children during the afternoon carpool on the first day of school. You will be given your carpool tag at this time. You will not be able to pick up children from the carpool line without the carpool tag.

If you need to drop off medication, the Nurse will have a table set up in the front office before school for the first week. Please note that all medication will need to be given to the Nurse by a parent or guardian, and cannot be delivered by a student.

Is this when my child will sign up for clubs?

No. Information about club registration will be sent to all families in the first few weeks of school.

Will I receive a supply list?

No. All supplies except a backpack are provided by NCA. You will receive an invoice for the Supply Fee through ParentSquare within the first two weeks of school, but you do not need to do any shopping for folders, binders, pencils, etc. In order to maintain the consistency needed to cultivate good habits, NCA implements a specific school-wide organizational system that is scaffolded from grades K - 10 to help students develop solid executive functioning skills. Students should not bring items from home.

Do the students need to be in uniform?

No, uniforms are not required for the Open House.

Will students receive locker assignments and be able to practice opening them?

Yes, students in grades 6-10 will receive their locker numbers and locker combinations as part of the information packet at the check-in table. It is recommended that parents and students practice opening the locker together since many students are not familiar with how to use a combination lock.
